Nestled in the prestigious Outremont district of Montréal, a residence surrounded by the lush slopes of Mount Royal has been given a renewed identity through a sophisticated refurbishment inspired by the principles of Mid-Century Modern design. Conceived by the Canadian studio PURE Cuisines in collaboration with Atelier Chardonnat, the project was honoured at the 17th edition of the Grands Prix du Design, recognised for its ability to seamlessly combine architectural heritage, refined material research and contemporary comfort.
For the kitchen, the focal point of the entire project, PURE Cuisines selected Key Cucine, recognising the brand's ability to bring the design vision to life through a bespoke approach in which exceptional craftsmanship, innovation and a profound understanding of materials come together in perfect harmony.
The project was conceived with the intention of preserving the home's original character, enhancing its clean architectural lines, abundant natural light and seamless connection with the surrounding landscape. Within this context, the kitchen is not conceived as a separate room, but as an architectural element that helps define the identity of the home, establishing a natural dialogue with the living area and the other spaces throughout the residence.
The project reflects a refined exploration of the relationship between materiality and form. Walnut - an iconic timber within the Mid-Century Modern design vocabulary - becomes the defining thread running throughout the composition. The doors from Key Cucine's Strip collection alternate smooth surfaces with an irregularly fluted three-dimensional texture, creating a sophisticated interplay of light and shadow that brings depth, movement and visual richness to the space.
The carefully curated material palette completes a composition that is understated yet rich in nuance. Worktops in Trachite Mare stone, a Titanium Liquid Metal finish and smoked glass detailing interact harmoniously with the warmth of walnut, creating an elegant, timeless palette that enhances the natural beauty of every surface. Every element has been bespoke-designed to meet the client's specific requirements, with particular attention paid to ergonomics, spatial flow and the seamless integration of storage solutions. The result is a kitchen where aesthetics and functionality exist in perfect balance an expression of a design approach that embraces the home as a cohesive architectural whole.
The project also extends to the bespoke furnishings throughout the rest of the residence, reinforcing a cohesive design language that flows seamlessly from one space to the next. Timber, leather, lacquered finishes and natural materials come together in a coherent narrative, where every element contributes to an atmosphere of understated sophistication and refined harmony.
Duchastel Residence is a compelling expression of Key Cucine's design philosophy: transforming the kitchen into an architectural experience, where the excellence of Italian craftsmanship meets an international vision of contemporary design and modern living.
